Xbox Game Pass Switch

Xbox CFO Tim Stuart has indicated that Microsoft is interested in bringing its first-party experiences and subscription services to devices such as Switch.

Stuart’s comments were made during the Wells Fargo TMT Summit this week. He mentioned how Microsoft wants to spread its offerings to “every screen that can play games” – with Nintendo’s console getting a namedrop.

Stuart’s full words:

“It’s a bit of a change of strategy. Not announcing anything broadly here, but our mission is to bring our first-party experiences [and] our subscription services to every screen that can play games. That means smart TVs, that means mobile devices, that means what we would have thought of as competitors in the past like PlayStation and Nintendo.”

While Microsoft continues to sell Xbox hardware, over the past few years, it has placed a continued emphasis on services with Xbox Game Pass in particular receiving a lot of attention. Xbox boss Phil Spencer previously said there were no plans for Game Pass on Switch, but that was in 2021 and things can change very quickly. Nintendo would also need to give its approval to such a service on its platforms.
