Today Sega released a video dedicated to the upcoming Yakuza game Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, which fans of popular VTuber Kson will likely appreciate.
The video showcases her character named Kei, the poster girl of a Honolulu bar named Revolver, where Kasuga Ichiban, Kazuma Kiryu, and their friends, will meet and enjoy some time off.
While the video is in Japanese, we get to see Kei in action in the game, as Kson explains her feelings about the project and shows off the performance capture process.
Kei has both Kson’s likeness and her voice, with a full-fledged 3D model in the game unlike her participation in Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, in which she had a smaller part as a cabaret club hostess which was entirely live-action.
This certainly works well, as Kson is one of the few Vtubers (virtual YouTubers) who has decided to reveal herself instead of remaining concealed behind the 3D model.
You can watch the video below.
Kson participation in the game actually has a deeper meaning for many of her fans who welcomed with joy her overall win at the dedicated audition.
While it was never confirmed officially, she’s said to be the same person behind another popular Vtuber, Hololive’s Kiryu Coco, who retired after a widespread harassment campaign by Chinese users and bans on local media after she mentioned in passing of Taiwan as a separate country during one of her streams.
Like Kiryu Coco, Kson is a big fan of the Yakuza/Like a Dragon franchise, so becoming part of it is seen by many as a happy ending following that ordeal after she returned under the VShojo label.
Incidentally, since she speaks both Japanese and English, she’s quite popular on both sides of the Pacific Ocean. I would be surprised if she didn’t perform as Kei in the English voice-overs as well.
Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth will be released on January 26, 2024, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
I played the game at Tokyo Game Show and you can read my detailed hands-on preview if you’d like to find out what I think about it.
Speaking of performers, you can watch another recent trailer in English revealing the performances of Daniel Dae Kim as Masataka Ebina and Danny Trejo as Dwight Méndez.
