Today Insomniac Games announced that the next big update for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will require some more time in the oven.
As a consequence of the need for further testing, the developer is now targeting early 2024 as a window for the release of the patch.
On the other hand, the features promised are rather nice, including New Game+, audio descriptions, the ability to change the time of day and tendril colors, and replay missions.
The full message, shared on the developer’s official account on X (formerly Twitter) reads as follows.
We have some news about the next game update for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. We know players have been eagerly awaiting features such as New Game+ and Audio Descriptions, among many more. We have been working vigilantly on these features and require more testing to ensure the quality is up to our standards.
We are now targeting Early 2024 for the next game update, and we’ll have a feature-complete list closer to its release. We’ve heard your feedback and will be adding some highly requested features, including the ability to change the time of day, swap tendril colors, and replay missions — just to name a few!
We can’t wait to share more with you in the future. In the meantime, we appreciate your patience as our team works to finish our next update for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2!
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is currently available exclusively for PS5 and it has sold over 5 million copies as of October 30, 2023. It’s likely quite a bit higher by now. According to Sony, it’s considered a “big hit.”
If you still haven’t grabbed your copy, you can purchase one on Amazon and if you need more convincing, you can read our enthusiastic review, in which our Andrew Stretch awarded the game with a 9.5 out of 10.
Insomniac Games is also working on a Wolverine game set in the same Earth-1048 Universe as the Marvel’s Spider-Man series, albeit we haven’t received many details about it, besides the fact that it’s involved in a recent ransomware case.
On the other side of the sky, Marvel Games is now working with Arkane Lyon on Marvel’s Blade. However, that one seems to be a ways off.
