One of the most exciting announcements from The Game Awards was news that Arkane Studios, the developers behind Dishonored and Deathloop, are working on an adaptation of Marvel’s Blade. With 2023 being the 50th anniversary of the character’s first appearance, it’s the perfect time to announce an adaptation, and we’re excited to see what the French studio will do with it.
It wasn’t the only big announcement to come out of The Game Awards, with the studio behind No Man’s Sky, Hello Games, also announcing a brand-new IP – Light No Fire – so be sure to check out everything we know about that too.
Marvel’s Blade release date
Marvel’s Blade did not receive a release date during its reveal at The Game Awards. In fact, we don’t know too much about the game’s development at all, aside from the fact that it currently is being made. Given that we didn’t receive a release date, and didn’t see much content for the game at all, it seems likely that the game is fairly early in its development cycle. As such, we wouldn’t expect to see a release before 2025 at the earliest.
Marvel’s Blade gameplay and story
Blade will see the player take control of the iconic Daywalker in a quarantined area of Paris, which has been locked down because of an outbreak of vampirism. Unsurprisingly, Blade is the man for the job, and you’ll be tasked with ridding the city of its vampire problem in a completely original story.
The game itself will be a third-person, single-player game. And while largely focused on the vampire-slaying that Blade is so famous for, we’re sure to see some of the incredible story and worldbuilding that Arkane have become known for, and we’re excited to see some more content in the future.
Marvel’s Blade trailer
The announcement trailer for the game was first shown at the 2023 Game Awards. Unfortunately, it doesn’t show us much of what to expect, beyond a great-looking art style. We’re shown a couple of shots of Paris, and a news story about the vampirism breakout. Next, we see Blade in a barber’s chair, before gunshots ring out outside, and he gears up to head out.
That’s everything we know about this new Blade game so far. If you’re after more news from The Game Awards, check out the Monster Hunter Wilds announcement and a brand-new IP from industry iconic Hideo Kojima.
