Marvel's new “Ultimate” universe has been a hit since its launch last year. Set in a similar but different timeline, “Ultimate Marvel” is a great entry point for new readers with high stakes, wilder experimentation, and very light reaction.

“Ultimate Universe: One Year In” one-shot #1 arrives in December. Marking the near-one-year anniversary of the release of Jonathan Hickman and Marco Cecchetto's “Ultimate Spider-Man” in January, “one year later,” “Ultimate Marvel” will “set the stage” for year two.

At New York Comic-Con, Marvel confirmed that a new hero will debut “a year later”: Ultimate Wolverine, who will have a spin-off in a series that will continue in January 2025. “Ultimate Wolverine” will be written by Chris Condon (writer of the black western horror comic “That Texas Blood”) and drawn by Alessandro Cappuccio (“Moon Knight”). The synopsis for “Ultimate Wolverine” says:

“To keep the Creators' corner of the world under their control, the three members of their council – Magik, Colossus and Omega Red – have their most dangerous asset: the Winter Soldier! But who is the weapon behind the mask?

That? Yes, you read that right. The Last Winter Soldier appears to be Logan, not Bucky Barnes; Wolverine and the Winter Soldier are the same.

As for the rest of that summary; The world of “Ultimate Marvel” was created by the Creator (the evil variant of Reed Richards). He changed history so that superheroes did not exist; Only a part of their ruling body was given powers and divided the world between them. The Rasputin family and Omega Red naturally inherited Russia. Check out the full “Ultimate Marvel” world map below:

This change is evident in Capuccio's redesign of Ultimate Wolverine; The suit is red and black, with a Soviet star (like the one emblazoned on the Winter Soldier's bionic arm) stretching across the torso. The look incorporates Russian iconography and resembles Wolverine's classic costume. The main change is the mask on the lower half of his face. Condon explained: “If you look at that mask, there is a muzzle [Wolverine]”That's because it's wild.”

Wolverine X and Winter Soldier's Ultimate Weapon

“Ultimate Marvel” has already gone from combining several classic characters to turning Native American Hawkeye into Reed Richards meets Doctor Doom. “Ultimate

Mutants are not widely known in the “Ultimate” universe, and the only hint of Logan's existence is a glimpse of an adamantium skeleton on display in the Maker's Cup room. However, it was only a matter of time before we got “Ultimate Wolverine” – Marvel couldn't leave one of its biggest characters out of the party. Not The Winter Soldier, in fact.

Since his debut during Ed Brubaker's run on “Captain America” in 2005, the Winter Soldier has been a popular character. Brubaker took something sacred (Bucky Barnes' death, certain after Captain America's revival in 1964's “Avengers” #4) and edited it for the better. That's why “The Winter Soldier” is widely considered the best “Captain America” comic. If Nu-Bucky is beloved in the comics, his (red) star exploded in 2014 when the Marvel Cinematic Universe adapted “The Winter Soldier.”

no one expected This isBut if you think about it, it's not such a bad combination. Both Wolverine and Winter Soldier have similar backstories; Humans who have been experimented on and turned into human weapons. The experience left them both with erased memories and metal bionic implants. Due to slow aging/cryogenic, both are Lot They are older than they look.

Those similarities are why writer Daniel Way paired Logan and Bucky in “Wolverine” #39. After Wolverine regains his memories, he remembers how he and the Winter Soldier had a hostile history (when Logan was an X-Man and Bucky was still a brainwashed assassin from the Soviet Union).

Based on claims, it looks like Ultimate Wolverine's journey will mirror Bucky's; A living weapon at the service of his evil masters who rediscovers his humanity.

“Ultimate Wolverine” #1 will be available for print and digital purchases on January 15, 2025.
