Last year was full of excellent video game releases and the same is slated for 2024. There are dozens of promising games slated to come to PS5 and Xbox throughout the next 12 months, but fans will be surprised to hear that the major Xbox exclusive Sea of Thieves could be coming to PS5 consoles early this year. Nothing is officially happening in the here and now, but rumors say Xbox is looking to make more of their console exclusives multi-platform.

The beginning of a new year is always relatively slow, but there’s still exciting stuff to anticipate this January. A new Xbox Developer Direct has leaked with a possible shadowdrop release, meanwhile, PlayStation users have the release date for The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered looming. Then throughout the year, there are lots of amazing upcoming games for 2024.

While both PlayStation and Xbox are set to get great games throughout 2024 and beyond, it would be fantastic to see one of Microsoft’s marquee console exclusives become multi-platform.

Xbox console exclusive Sea of Thieves could be coming to PS5

Rumors suggest Xbox has been exploring bringing Sea of Thieves to PS5 and Nintendo Switch consoles. Stephen Totilo of Game File reports that a source has told him that Microsoft has considered bringing the multiplayer pirate game to PlayStation for possibly an early 2024 release.

In addition, Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb has said on Game Mess Mornings that it could be coming to PlayStation and Nintendo Switch as part of Microsoft changing its strategy. Not only is Sea of Thieves named as coming to PlayStation, but there’s also the possibility of the renowned Hi-Fi Rush from The Evil Within developer, Tango Gameworks.

Microsoft has not officially responded to any of the reports as of writing. If true, Sea of Thieves would be fantastic on PS5. It’s a fun open playground pirate adventure where you can team up with friends and explore the seas for booty while fending off ghost pirates, giant megalodon sharks, and krakens. It has received lots of post-launch updates and DLC since its 2018 release including critically acclaimed crossovers with Pirates of the Caribbean and Monkey Island.

In other news, you still have time to possibly win a new PS5 console by just answering five questions. Meanwhile, if you already own a current-gen PlayStation, you can try to win a new Nintendo Switch OLED for free.
