The developer behind The Lord of the Rings On-line has instructed its gamers the sport shouldn’t be going to be scrapped within the wake of Amazon asserting it’s engaged on the same product.

On Monday, Amazon Video games revealed it has signed a partnership with Center-Earth Enterprises – which controls the rights to JRR Tolkien’s works – to develop and publish a brand new Lord of the Rings MMO for consoles and PC.

On Wednesday, LOTRO developer Standing Stone Video games posted a message on the sport’s official boards on behalf of itself and Center-Earth Enterprises, assuring that the long-running MMORPG is “not going away.”

“Such as you, we, and our companions at Center-earth Enterprises are big followers of LOTRO,” the corporate wrote. “It’s beloved, it’s sixteen [years old], it’s evergreen. LOTRO is just like the long-lived Ents, Elves and Dwarves; and we mere mortals, are the stewards of LOTRO and its group. Standing Stone has each intention of rising and supporting this group. The street goes ever on.”

The message follows days of notes from “excited and anxious group members” in response to the Amazon announcement.

We spoke to Amazon Video games VP Christoph Hartmann about his ambitions for the brand new undertaking, who instructed us he hopes to make this “the biggest MMO on the market” and emphasised that the title must be “first a sport, after which a mirrored image of the books second.”
