If you have Pokémon Scarlet and Violet and its DLC, playing through The Indigo Disk earns you potential access to a bunch of legendary Pokémon. One of the most difficult ones to find is Moltres, so this guide covers where you can unlock that legendary monster.
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet – Location to unlock Moltres
Moltres is a powerful flying Pokémon, and you’ll definitely want it in your lineup. You can find Moltres in the Asado Desert, near western Paldea. Note that in order to capture Moltres, you need the Moltres Treat item.

Moltres appears along a cliff near the northern portion of the Asado Desert. Look in the area indicated in the above map screenshot. You’ll need to climb to high ground to find it, and it may be joined by a bunch of weaker varieties of Pokémon.
Requirements to unlock Moltres
As noted above, you need the Moltres Treat in order to make the legendary Pokémon appear. Unfortunately, getting that item requires a serious time investment. To unlock Moltres, you have to clear not only the main Pokémon Scarlet and Violet campaign, but both parts of its expansion.
When you finally beat The Indigo Disk, you gain some neat rewards and meet with a few characters. You eventually receive word that you can visit a man in a blue suit who hangs around outside the Terarium. Look for him to the right of the desk, near the Entrance area.

When you talk to the character, you’ll learn his name is Snacksworth. He awards you Key Items as you clear BBQ quests. For every 10 completed quests, you receive a new “treat.” Each treat has the name of a corresponding legendary Pokémon. You need to keep clearing quests until you receive the Moltres Treat. In my case, I received it after clearing a whopping 90 quests. To accomplish that feat, I spent a few hours snapping photos, auto battling, and occasionally catching monsters in the Terarium. If you don’t mind grinding, it shouldn’t take all that long, especially if you’ve already cleared some quests up to this point.
Once you have the Moltres Treat, take it to the cliffs along the north of the Asado Desert. They’re a short distance north of the Asado Desert Watchtower. You can use the treat to capture the attention of the desired Pokémon. Just walk up to it and bump against it to engage it in battle. Whittle down its health and then use a ball to catch it. I was able to catch one using just the Ultra Ball, but it took me around 10 or 15 attempts.
