Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio has announced that the English dub for Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name is incoming sometime this month.
In a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), RGG Studio confirms that the dub is headed to the game “in December via a free update”.
Unfortunately, we don’t get any more information than that, so it’s not clear exactly when you’ll be able to hear English voices coming from the mouths of Kiryu and his friends (and enemies, of course).
Per the IMDb, the English cast for Like a Dragon Gaiden will include mainstays like Matthew Mercer, Roger Craig Smith, and Crispin Freeman, as well as Kazuma Kiryu’s new English voice actor.
Previous English voices for the character were provided by Darryl Kurylo, whose work you may also recognize from Destiny 2 (Asher Mir) and Prototype 2 (Alex Mercer).
Now, however, Kiryu will be played by YouTuber Yong Yea, as was announced in July this year.
Yong Yea has worked on games like Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail, and he also played Charles Merloch in this year’s Detective Pikachu Returns.
Of course, if you can get over what Parasite director Bong Joon-ho called “the one-inch tall barrier of subtitles”, you’ll be pleased to know that Like a Dragon Gaiden can also be played entirely in Japanese with subs.
Like a Dragon Gaiden is the latest game in the long-running Like a Dragon series, which rebranded itself from Yakuza in the West last year.
The game takes place between Yakuza 6: The Song of Life and Yakuza: Like a Dragon and follows protagonist Kazuma Kiryu as he battles to remain out of the public eye.
Taking the codename “Joryu” (which, assuredly, nobody will fall for), Kiryu must once again navigate a world of intrigue and danger, this time adopting the tricks of a secret agent to stay alive.
You can grab Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name right now on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. Be sure to check out our very own Tyler’s review of the game to see what he thought.
