Life is Strange Creators Reveal Brand-New Game

Highlights

  • Don’t Nod unveiled a new game at The Game Awards called Lost Records: Bloom and Rage, featuring an art style reminiscent of Life is Strange.
  • The game centers around a group of high school friends and music will play a central theme, similar to the Life is Strange series.
  • Lost Records: Bloom and Rage is set to be the first in a series of games, with a late 2024 release window for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and Steam.

Don’t Nod, the studio responsible for narrative adventure games such as Twin Mirror, Tell Me Why, and the Life is Strange series, unveiled its latest title at The Game Awards titled Lost Records: Bloom and Rage. Geoff Keighley’s annual Game Awards ceremony is notorious for featuring a heavy serving of reveal trailers for new games along with its celebration of the nominees and awards winners.

The French game studio Don’t Nod has had quite the busy year in 2023 after not releasing a game since Tell Me Why and Twin Mirror in 2020. This year, the studio has released two titles. The choice-driven adventure game Harmony: The Fall of Reverie was released over the summer to solid reviews, while its climbing-focused adventure game Jusant launched directly onto Xbox Game Pass this fall. Don’t Nod was planning on releasing a third title in November, the much more ambitious-looking Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden, before it was pushed to February 13, 2024.

Every Don’t Nod Game, Ranked

Don’t Nod already features several great games on its resume. Here’s how they stack up.

Now, Don’t Nod has unveiled its newest title at The Game Awards. Lost Records: Bloom and Rage is the first game in development at Don’t Nod’s new Montreal branch that opened in 2020, and its art style is strikingly similar to that of its beloved Life is Strange franchise. The game is set in the mid-90s and is centered around a group of four high school friends named Autumn, Nora, Swann, and Kat. It’s unclear exactly what the gameplay will entail, however, judging by the fact that the art style is nearly identical to Life is Strange, Lost Records seems most likely to be a similar style of narrative adventure.

As indicated by the title and the fact that the characters are seen playing in a band to open the trailer, music will play a central theme in Lost Records. Despite Deck Nine developing instead of Don’t Nod, 2021’s Life is Strange: True Colors similarly has music at its heart, so it seems Don’t Nod will continue that appreciation of music with Lost Records. Interestingly, this is set to be the first of a series of Lost Record games to come. Whether they’ll follow the same set of characters or introduce a completely new setting and cast for each title, a la Life is Strange, remains to be seen.

When Is Lost Records: Bloom and Rage Coming Out?

Lost Records: Bloom and Rage has been stamped with a late 2024 release window, and it frankly seems like a perfect game for the Autumn months. The game will be making its way to Xbox Series X and S, PlayStation 5, as well as Steam. Coming off a busy 2023, it seems like 2024 will also be loaded for Don’t Nod, as it has both Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden and now Lost Records: Bloom and Rage lined up for the new year.
