Re: Leaks, ineffective anchors, mechanical breakdowns among ongoing problems facing new Arctic patrol ships, online, Feb. 14

News that the Canadian navy is having to deal with mechanical and functional issues on its new Arctic patrol ships is obviously disappointing.

But what is shocking is that the federal government (read taxpayers) will be on the hook for the repair costs on these two- or three-year-old ships.

How is it possible that the average Canadian could negotiate a five-year bumper-to-bumper warranty on a $50,000 new car, but the geniuses that work in federal procurement could only negotiate a one-year warranty on ships that cost hundreds of millions of dollars each?

The Justin Trudeau Liberal government is rebranding its carbon-tax rebate in an effort to supposedly make it clear to Canadians where the funds are coming from.

Previously called the “Climate Action Incentive Payment,” the government announced that it will now be called the “Canada Carbon Rebate Program.”

They can rename it all they want, but Canadians are not stupid; we’re still paying a carbon tax.

Furthermore, Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault cannot prove scientifically that his Climate Change Action Plan is actually reducing greenhouse gas and carbon dioxide concentrations in our atmosphere.

More smoke and mirrors by the Trudeau government.

Re: Feds rebrand carbon rebates, Feb. 15

I laughed so hard at this one I almost wet myself. I personally have received one rebate cheque since its inception and I haven’t seen another dime since. Calling it another name is just a joke in a long list of jokes perpetrated by this Liberal government. To have the likes of Steven Guilbeault speak down to us as if we’re a bunch of idiots, claiming that maybe we didn’t understand the original name, is an insult, but then again that’s what they do.

Then Labour Minister Seamus O’Regan has the gall to say that to “axe the tax” is to “axe the rebate.” Really? Does he think we’re that stupid? The rebate doesn’t even come close to compensating us for the carbon tax we’re paying on everything from gas to groceries to heating our homes.
