FLANAGAN’S FAREWELL

It was a fabulous ride, but all good things must come to an end. I am retiring from writing letters. I want to sincerely thank the Ottawa Sun for putting up with me through the years. Yes, there were people who agreed with me, and I also had my detractors, and that is fair game. (Full disclosure: I NEVER read the comments section.)

Now to my last subject: the all-powerful spokes folks. Last weekend saw the closure of the Aviation Parkway to vehicles as per usual. However, Highway 417 was closed both ways for four days as well and the city saw fit to close the Jeanne d’Arc west entrance to Highway 174. This inconvenienced a lot of folks, but I am not surprised since both the National Capital Commission and Ottawa city hall have very little time for private vehicles.

I now look forward to reading the opinions of others.

STEPHEN FLANAGAN
OTTAWA

(Editor’s note: Stephen Flanagan has easily been the most prolific Ottawa Sun letter to the editor writer over the past decade, with a “date-range-all” search of the paper’s database showing 1,133 Stephen Flanagan bylines, the first of them appearing in April 2011. That number quite likely would have tripled — or maybe even quadrupled — had all his submissions been published. Quite the ride, indeed.)

ALREADY HAVE CHATBOTS

Re: Gov’t chatbots? It’s one possibility, July 28

Government chatbots? We already have them.

They are called cabinet and prime minister.

What we need are real, live human beings.

KAMALA A YOUNGER JOE

I’ve now read two letters from people who are under the impression that Kamala Harris would be a good U.S. president. If you thought Joe Biden was a mess, you haven’t seen anything yet. Harris can’t get any more left-wing. If you listen to her speak, she’s as bad as Joe is … all over the place. She’s a younger version of Biden in her lack of being able to make any sense at all.

For those who don’t like Donald Trump, I have yet to hear what it is that bugs them so much about him. While his personality may be irksome, his policies were good ones and the U.S. was in a much better place, and that should be what people base their votes on. After all, look at what Canada has turned into under Justin Trudeau … and all because he had great hair.
