[Let’s Talk] Favorite E3 memories

With E3 officially coming to a permanent end this week, now’s a good time for reflection. The expo was home to some of the most memorable moments and that’s something we want to dive into.

For Nintendo, there were plenty of memorable moments over the years. It was where the company showed off new hardware like the 3DS and Wii U. It also gave us some massive announcements such as The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, which may never be topped in terms of reaction. Even outside of reveals, there were other memorable moments such as Reggie Fils-Aime’s first major appearance. When Nintendo moved to digital presentations in later years, we still got some special presentations like with Robot Chicken and The Jim Henson Company.

So what were your favorite E3 moments over the past couple of decades? Let us know in the comments.

I have some serious issues with TGA 2023, but none of them are related to who won what award. I agree with the general thrust of the Internet argument that there was too much time allocated to creatives of non-video game-related talent and too little for the developers. Also, I’ll admit that I laughed when Christopher Judge took aim at the Call of Duty developers, but in retrospect, that was a little crass of him.

Then again, this isn’t new or unique to this year. Last year had Vin Diesel advertising his latest Fast Furious project before remembering that he was supposed to be announcing the 2022 Game of the Year.

With that having been said, I don’t agree with the accusations that the voting mechanisms were secretly rigged or anything like that. Keighley was transparent and open with the selection process: a combination of votes from the Internet and votes from a panel of judges, with the ultimate decision weighted heavily in favor of the judges. This is no secret.

I’m glad Pikmin 4 took a trophy home, it’s my GotY. Plenty of games I was rooting for got their awards. There were several interesting announcements that I’d like to play. So all in all, I had a great time.
