Laura Dern admits she was 'very lucky' to be able to star in an uncredited sex scene with younger costar Liam Hemsworth in her new film Lonely Planet.

The romantic drama, which landed on Netflix on October 11, sees Dern's character Kathryn Lowe, a successful and respected writer, travel to a Moroccan resort to finish her latest literary novel – where she meets Hemsworth's character Owen Brophy.

Although Owen retreats with his girlfriend Lily Kemp (played by Diana Silvers), he falls in love with Catherine, and the pair grow closer as they begin to spend more time with each other.

In one particularly unflattering scene, the pair have sex against a wall and Dern, 57, revealed that there was 'definitely an intimacy coordinator' on set, adding that she was very comfortable with her 34-year-old Australian costar.

Dern described Hemsworth as 'the safest person I could talk to about everything in my life': 'When we were doing those scenes, there was nothing we couldn't talk about, creatively and professionally, together. All that.
