Konami announced its financial results for the first half of the fiscal year, related to the period between April 1 and September 30, 2023.
Total revenue was 153,851 million yen (+3.7% year-on-year), while business profit was 35,414 million yen (+38.3% year-on-year).
Looking specifically at the Digital Entertainment business, which includes games and Yu-Gi-Oh! cards, revenue was 102,102 million yen (-0.6% year-on-year) while business profit was 31,032 million yen (+32% year-on-year).
The massive increase in profitability was chalked to “improved profit margin of core contents in the Digital Entertainment business and solid performances in the Amusement, the Gaming & Systems and the Sports businesses.”
We hear that eFootball 2024 has been “well received by players” and received “strong reviews.” On top of that Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel celebrated 57.3 million downloads and “continues to enjoy positive reception by many players.”
In case you were wondering (as it appears some still are) whether the “Vol.1” in “Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol.1” is just for show or not, the press release clearly mentions that it’s “the first installment of a collection that will mark the trajectory of the Metal Gear series.” Incidentally, you can purchase a physical copy on Amazon if you so wish.
Speaking about Metal Gear Solid, we hear about Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater, which is confirmed as a “faithful recreation of the story, characters, and game design of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater “ while “updating its graphical style to modern graphics for the current generation.”
Incidentally, Konami has hosted the Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship 2023 for the first time in four years at the Tokyo Dome in Japan, following the hiatus due to the pandemic.
