Kevin Afghani has come forward as the new voice of Mario, confirming that he’s handling the character in Super Mario Bros. Wonder. He will also be playing Luigi.
Yesterday, rumors swirled that Mick Wingert would be taking over the role after a store demo for the game was datamined. However, while his representative confirmed his involvement, we also received confirmation that he wouldn’t be playing Mario.
Afghani seems to have only involved with voice acting since 2020, so he doesn’t have a ton of credits to his name just yet. His primarily role was Arnold in Genshin Impact.
He had this to say on social media: “Incredibly proud to have voiced Mario and Luigi in Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Thanks to Nintendo for inviting me into the Flower Kingdom!”
Afghani will be the new voice of Mario going forward, taking over the role from Charles Martinet who had voiced the character for decades. Nintendo announced in August that Martinet would be stepping back from voicing characters in its games, but will act as Mario Ambassador in the future.

You’ll be able to hear Mario’s new voice when Super Mario Bros. Wonder launches on October 20, 2023.
