In the next few days, HCD will officially confirm the extension of its coach Josh Holden's contract for two years in advance until 2027.
The naturalized Canadian is at the beginning of a great coaching career. Josh Holden (46) spent five years as an assistant at EV Zug and had the best mentor in head coach Dan Tangnes. In the summer of 2023, he took over as head coach of HC Davos and in his first season brought Davos their first Spengler Cup victory since 2012 and a sixth-place finish. The results directly advanced to the playoffs. In the quarter-finals, the finalists Lausanne faced the challenge of 7 games.
Josh Holden got the most out of the team last season and caused a stir during the Spengler Cup when he made a name for himself in front of the TV cameras in the final Every trick, Tomas Jurco folded into the dugout. HCD won games and tournaments. The right combination of challenge and support, temperament and wisdom, fire and water (yin and yang, so to speak) is the secret to success.
Josh Holden was a hot-headed leader at Friborg and Langnau from 2005 and at Zug from 2008, twice recording more than 100 penalty minutes each season. As a player, he had a great firehead in Doug Shedden; as an assistant coach, he had head coach Dan Tangnes, one of hockey's greatest intellectuals one. Better training is almost unthinkable. Josh Holden is the perfect cross between Doug Seldon and Dan Tennis.
He had just shown his leadership qualities impressively in the autumn: HCD lost three of the first four games and lost the fourth 0-7 in Langnau. crisis? No. Emmental's bankruptcy was the beginning of a peak: since then, Davos has won 11 out of 14 games, rising from 12th to 3rd place.
The biggest challenge for a coach is to draw the right conclusions from an ignominious defeat and turn it around. 7-0 and three losses in four games didn't derail the HCD coach. On Saturday, he defeated former teacher Dan Tangnes' EV Zug for the second time this season.
According to reliable sources in Davos, an extension to 2027 makes sense. Josh Holden is at the beginning of a great coaching career.
