Joseph Suali joins Skelton and Kerevi in Wallabies squad for UK and Ireland tour | Australia rugby team

After being named in Joe Schmidt's squad for tests against England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland, Joseph Suali will make his debut in the Wallabies' first season in rugby league.

The 21-year-old, who can play in the centers or outside defence, could have been sent to Britain's tour of Australia XV but was instead named in the Wallabies' 34-man squad.

He played his last NRL game with the Sydney Roosters a month ago, before joining the Wallabies at training camp.

Suali is one of three players not included in the squad, along with flyhalf Dane Edmet and England-born all-rounder Harry Potter, who revived his Test aspirations at the New Zealand national provincial championships.

Will Skelton, who captained Australia during part of last year's poor World Cup campaign, has been called up to the team for the first time this year.

Locke, 32, missed July's Test and Rugby Championship due to a commitment to his French club La Rochelle, but last week said he had been in contact with Schmidt about returning to the Test stadium.

The powerful center Samu Kerevi will also play in the first test of the year. But Fiji-born teammate Marika Koroipet, a two-time winner of the John Eales Medal as Australia's Test Player of the Year, did not find a place.

Forwards Rob Liotta and Liam Wright have been ruled out with calf and shoulder injuries respectively, as has young fly-half Tom Lynock, who will tour with the Australia XV.

The Wallabies will take on England at Twickenham on November 9 before completing their Grand Slam tour with visits to Cardiff, Edinburgh and Dublin the following weekends.

The 30-man Australia XV squad, named on Tuesday, will play English club Bristol Bears on November 8 and England A the following weekend.

“We have a relatively stable group, but we will integrate some new players into the circuit,” Schmidt said in a press release.

“As we strive to balance opportunities for players, some recent members of the squad will have much-needed playing time with the Australia XV, helping to broaden our player pool in more competitive games.”
