During an appearance on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve, with Ryan Seacrest, Biden, who was accompanied by his wife, Jill, asked by the former American Idol host what food he likes.

“I’m curious, what sorts of holiday foods have you been enjoying over the last few days?” Seacrest asked the president during the virtual interview.

“Well, I’ve been eating everything that’s put in front of me,” Biden joked before getting specific – sort of.

“But I’ve eaten pasta, which I love,” he continued. “I’ve eaten a lot of chicken, chicken parmesan, I’ve been eating all Italian foods, basically.”

The first lady, who was sitting with Biden for the interview, interrupted to remind her husband, “And ice cream.”

The president added, “And ice cream. Chocolate chip ice cream.”

The exchange was mocked online, with some calling it “embarrassing,” while others branded the exchange  a “farce.”

“These are the type of questions I ask my five-year-old,” one person commented.

That makes sense, considering a longtime Biden adviser previously told the Washington Post “he has the tastes of a five-year-old.”

Last May, it was reported that the president has a bland palette and eats “like a child,” with his aides reportedly saying his favourite meals include peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, pizza, cookies, angel hair spaghetti with tomato sauce and, most famously, ice cream, Axios reported.

The softball questions came as the number of migrants crossing at the U.S.-Mexico border hit record-breaking numbers in December.

U.S. immigration officials said they are on track to process more than 300,000 migrants in December, an all-time monthly high that will likely include record numbers of families travelling with children, CBS News reported.

The three-year-long migrant crisis is just one of the reasons Biden has become politically vulnerable as he seeks re-election. He is expected to face his predecessor Donald Trump in this year’s election.

Biden would be 86 if he serves a full second term.
