Jazz Chisholm Jr. Yankees' Michael Garcia accuses Royals' Michael Garcia of trying to hurt teammate: 'bruise'

New York Yankees Third Baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. didn't hold back when he mentioned Michael Garcia's move to second base from the Kansas City Royals during the Yankees' 3-1 win on Thursday.

After Garcia singled to start the sixth inning off Kings' Michael Massey, the helicopter hit first base. Yankees first baseman John Bertie stepped on the ball and fired to shortstop Anthony Volpe, who hit Garcia at second base for a double play.

Garcia slid hard into second base, and Volpe hit Garcia with some force. Volpe hit Garcia in the neck with his right hand during the tackle.

Garcia and Volpe stood up and looked at each other for a moment. Then, as Garcia slowly walked off the field, he turned to Chisholm and began talking to the Yankees' third baseman.

When this happened, chaos ensued as teams filed out of their dugouts and bulls ran off the field. Several people in the Yankees dugout held Chisholm down.

After several tense moments, order was quickly restored and play resumed. Chisholm was upset because he felt Garcia was trying to hurt Volpe on the slide.

“It felt like he came in and tried to hurt Volpe because he was so painful. You know what I mean? He talked a lot on Instagram and Twitter. I do the same thing, but I don't do it. If they won the match, I told him we wouldn't do it and that I would side with my boys.

Before leaving the bench, Chisholm was booed by Royals fans when he said the Royals were “lucky” to win the second game. During the Yankees' post-game celebration, Chisholm's teammates booed him.

Gerrit Cole He was standing on the mound when the benches cleared and had to be held down at the restart.

“I held my emotions in all night long,” Cole admitted, “and let them out on the way to the dugout.”

Cole threw seven innings in one ball. Yankees manager Aaron Boone also wasn't sure what happened at second base that cleared the benches.

“I have no idea (what happened). Honestly,” Boone said. “It was like we were there and then we came back at the end of the playoff game. So I didn't even let the dust settle and talked to the people involved.

“Yeah, slide or whatever, that's what it looked like. We'd go back and show Hal McRae and Willie Randolph a little bit and we'd all laugh at ourselves,” Boone added jokingly, referring to the days of the intense Royals-Yankee rivalry.

Royals manager Matt Quatraro was honest about what happened.

“Volop had the ball, he blocked the ball. Michael probably wasn't paying much attention and it got a little rough,” Quatraro said.

The Yankees now await their opponent in Monday's first game of the American League Championship Series.

D Cleveland Guard The Detroit Tigers will play a winner-take-all game on Saturday.
