It was always going to be interesting to see which way NetEase Games went with its RPG Vikingard after the obvious collaboration with hit TV show Vikings ended. We now have the answer, and it is a bit of a surprise, as we have an announcement of a new team-up with Arthurian Legends.
Until January 6th, the Fharun clan finds themselves facing a cataclysmic threat with their land cursed by a spell of endless frost and cold, threatening all crops and life. On their journey to find a cure, the Vikings stumble upon Merlin and Gawain, who are coincidentally hunting the witch who cast the spell, to rescue King Arthur who is in a magical sleep after Excalibur shattered in a frozen lake.
As soon as they meet, both groups almost come to blows, blaming each other for the situation, until the Volva of the clan receives a message from the gods and stops the antagonism. Putting aside the less then auspicious start, both groups team up to find the witch to rescue the King, and put a stop to the endless winter.
During this event, players get their hands on new legendary SSS-level characters, including Merlin, Gawain, and King Arthur himself, slightly ruining the suspense of the Will He Wake plot. To rouse the sleepy boy, you must find all the pieces of Excalibur and reforge them, and then whack him with it. You can also collect stained glass paintings to learn the story of his life and all the battles that led to his rule.
As well as the new story and fighters, players can also enjoy a winter-themed interface, and pick up new looks for Hersirs, Pets, and Companions, all inspired by bitterly cold winter. You can also be a new Frost Phoenix pet, which sounds incredibly wrong, and a mysterious new companion by offering tributes to a sacred Deer Fairy.
Vikingard can be downloaded from the App Store and Google Play.
