Today Bushiroad announced that it will launch a full-blown fighting game dedicated to the Hunter X Hunter manga and anime franchise.
The announcement, shared via press release, was made at Jump Festa 2024, the event dedicated to the manga published on the famous magazine Weekly Shounen Jump currently being hosted at the Makuhari Messe in Chiba near Tokyo, Japan.
The only information provided today, besides the genre, is that the game will be developed by Tokyo-based studio Eighting.
If you’re not familiar with the name Eighting, it recently worked on Pikmin 4, DNF Duel, Zoids Wild: Blast Unleashed, and more. In the past, it also worked on Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Fate/unlimited codes, Tekken Advance, and the Bloody Roar series, so it’s certainly not new to fighting games.
While the information shared today was indeed scarce, more will be announced at the Bushiroad Games segment of the Bushiroad New Year Grand Presentation 2024 which will be hosted at Tokyo Dome in Japan on January 6, 2024.
You can certainly expect a report here on TechRaptor when the details are shared.
If you’re not familiar with Hunter X Hunter, it was born as a manga by Yoshihiro Togashi, debuted on Weekly Shounen Jump in March 1998, and is still currently serialized after a whopping 37 volumes.
Like most Weekly Shounen Jump manga, it sparked the creation of multiple anime series counting hundreds of episodes, OVAs, and movies.
Of course, it also had plenty of dedicated video games, albeit none in the past few years. Yet, plenty of its characters appeared in the crossover fighting game by Spike Chunsoft and Bandai Namco Jump Force, released in 2019.
We’re in a rather good period for fighting games, with several high-profile releases, so it’ll certainly be interesting to see how this one with stack up against the rest when we’re able to see and learn more.
Bushiroad has been making a rather strong effort to bring anime and manga franchises to consoles and PCs within its move to expand beyond mobile games, including games dedicated to Macross, Mushoku Tensei, and Goblin Slayer currently in the works.
