He's called Wolverine, but Hugh Jackman is set to return to his song-and-dance roots for his next Hollywood film.

The 56-year-old will star alongside Kate Hudson in the comedy new musical Song Sung Blue.

The film is based on the real-life story of a married couple who found hometown fame by forming a tribute band to 70s superstar Neil Diamond.

Variety reports that production on the film began in the US on Monday.

Jackman and Hudson play real-life couple Mike and Claire Sardina Milwaukee produces a double act called Lightning & Thunder.

Claire became known for her impersonation of popular American country superstar Patsy Cline, while her husband Mike hitmaker Diamond took fans by storm.

Although never making it big outside of their hometown, the duo once played in support of legendary rockers Pearl Jam.

After his huge success in the Broadway stage musical The Music Man, the new film will be an opportunity for Jackman to showcase his legendary talents as a singer and dancer.

45-year-old Kate Hudson is also known as a singer. The Glass Onion actress released her debut single Talk About Love in January.
