Ark Survival Ascended allows you to flit between first person and third person as you wish to accomodate for your playing style. However, this process isn’t the most obvious thing to figure out.
Switching between first and third person in Ark Survival Ascended
Having the option to switch between first and third person in Ark Survival Ascended is a real boon, as it orients the camera to more preferably positions and allows you to see your incredible character in action. For a more authentic experience, players may prefer playing ‘through the eyes’ of their character. However, for a better camera angle, or to observe yourself riding atop the backs of dinos, the third person may be preferable.
Whatever your reasons are, being able to switch is important. It’s different for each platform, so let me tell you how to switch between camera angles in Ark Survival Ascended.

For PC players, it couldn’t be simpler. Simply scrolling on the mouse wheel will pan the camera backwards and forwards, allowing you a lot more mobility and options when switching between the person angles. I thoroughly enjoyed switching back and forth pretty consistently, to better see the land and to play more authentically.
For Xbox players, holding the ‘select’ button will bring up a wheel with certain commands. In the top left of the wheel is ‘toggle X person’. Use your right analogue stick to select that option, and release the buttons. Your camera angle should have changed. You can repeat this process to flit between first person and third person.
For PlayStation players, holding the touchpad will bring up the command wheel. Using R3, you can navigate to a button labelled ‘toggle X person’. When selected, release both buttons, and you should now be in a different person. You can do this over and over again to switch between camera angles.
Try out both perspectives to get a better feel for which one you prefer. I think I prefer first person mode, but I am a sucker for immersion, so if given the option, I generally enjoy that perspective better. Although third person certainly has its uses. To take in the grandeur of Ark Survival Ascended, and for better camera angles to get a better lay of the land, I’d always switch to third person.
Whatever your preferences, at least you know you can always change them.
