How to Get Least Expected in Baldur’s Gate 3
To acquire Least Expected in Baldur’s Gate 3, you will first need to ensure that you complete Act 1 in its entirety and progress forward until Act 2. After arriving in Act 2, you will need to travel to the Gauntlet of Shar, where the Least Expected can be found.
The easiest way to successfully acquire this item is to first visit the Moonrise Towers area, explore this location, and speak to the people inside, as Z’rell will provide you with a Quest located in this area and give you access to Balthazar’s Office. In Balthazar’s office, you will be able to pick up a Moonlantern, which will enable you to traverse the entire Shadow-Cursed Lands while providing yourself with protection against the Shadow Curse.
Alternatively, you may gain the Moonlantern from Kar’niss the Drider by turning against him and Kansif during the Harper ambush if you choose to have him lead you to Moonrise Towers. Either way, you will need to obtain a Moonlantern through one of these methods, as you will need to walk through some of the worst affected Sjadow-Cursed terrain to reach the Gauntlet of Shar.
After arriving at the Gauntlet of Shar, all you will need to do to gain the Least Expected bow is explore the area, as it can be sourced from a Gilded Chest within the area, alongside a few other pieces of loot. The exact location of this Gilded Chest is approximately X: -736, Y: -801, where it can be found tucked behind a counter.

Least Expected Skills & How to Get the Most Value, Explained
Least Expected Skills
- Darkveil Precision: While obscured in shadow, the wielder has a +1d4 bonus to their ranged weapon attacks.
As Darkveil Precision relies on being obscured, you will need to utilize Least Expected as the weapon of a high DEX character. This is because not only do bows use DEX as the attack modifier, but these characters will also be able to use their Stealth with the Hide Action to gain an advantage over their opponents.
Some Subclasses, in particular, even have Class Features that can be used to obscure yourself, making them the best contenders for this weapon. In particular, the Assassin Rogue and Gloomstalker Ranger – or perhaps the iconic Multiclass combination of Gloomstalker Assassin would be the perfect exemplar of a brilliant choice for gaining the best value out of the Least Expected bow.
