I’m not sure if this is funny or interesting that Battlefield 1 which came out in 2016 is still facing some issues. Battlefield 1: How to fix “ Error Code 1 an Unknown Error has Occurred”

Before the debacle that was Battlefield 2042, the World War One shooter launched the series higher than Call of Duty’s Infinite Warfare. However, even with its amazing legacy, problems have been coming. With the same breath, it’s still surprising that people still play Battlefield 1, and I am very glad about that.

How to fix the error code

The good news is that over the years, as the game has been progressing, players have been coming up with more solutions. This means you have several options to run through before opting to reinstall.

  • Restart the game: Most games these days that issues like Error Code 1 simply need to be restarted. This more often than not fixes the problem. However to increase the chance of having the game run smoothly, restart your PC or console as well.
  • Play on a different server: I’ve noticed when playing on the official DICE server the error doesn’t come up at all. If you’re playing via Server Browser, try playing on the vanilla server first.
  • Clear Cache: On the console, unplug your system and wait for a minute. After, reboot the console, and start up Battlefield 1. If all goes well, the error code shouldn’t appear now.
  • For PC users of the EA App, press the three lines on the top left. From the drop-down menu, press Help and then App Recovery. This will open a window allowing you to clear the cache.
  • On Steam, you just need to verify the files to clear the cache. Press on Battlefield 1 in your library. Right-click the game, and press Properties. From the options on the left, hit Installed Files. Upon pressing this option, you should a new batch of options. Press the last option which is Verify integrity of game files.
  • Make sure your internet is working: Since this problem is usually with matchmaking, try resetting your internet. I normally use a wired connection, which seems to fix most of my matchmaking issues. You might get the same outcome.
