A while back, Fortnite introduced its players to Gold, an in-game resource that they could use to hire NPCs and purchase their services, reroll Augments, and acquire vending machine items. Everyone has access to gold, but it’s impossible to buy – it must be earned.
Fortnite: How to Retrieve a Combat Cache
Here is how the Combat Cache drop works in Fortnite.
An item added in Chapter 4 Season 4 made it much easier for players to collect gold, but they must understand how they can farm it first. Thankfully, this guide will show players how they can easily farm as much gold as they would like in Fortnite so that they can then take advantage of it and buy themselves tons of useful items and modify their weapons.
Updated on December 24, 2023, by Ashely Claudino: With the introduction of the Society Medallion bosses at the start of Chapter 5 Season 1, there is another way to farm gold in-game. This guide has been updated in order to contain this new method so that players have other ways to get more gold.
How to Farm Gold With the Shield Breaker EMP
Shield Breaker EMPs were added to Fortnite a couple of seasons ago, and while they’re not one of the most popular items when it comes to combat, they sure are useful to break down all sorts of machines, which is what makes them so useful when it comes to farming gold.
Gamers can find Shield Breaker EMPs as floor loot and inside chest containers. Previously, they were also available inside Heist Bags, but these containers were removed from the game. Thankfully, this is a pretty common item so players shouldn’t have too trouble finding a few scattered around the map. Shield Breaker EMPs can be found in stacks of three, and players can hold up to six per inventory slot.
Since Shield Breaker EMPs can disable any type of electronic device in Fortnite, they can break vending machines, allowing players to retrieve tons of gold from them.
Each time a player throws a Shield Breaker EMP at a vending machine, it will malfunction and a stack of 150 gold bars will pop out of it, so the more Shield Breaker EMPs the player throws at the vending machine, the more gold they’ll be able to get their hands on. This method has been part of the game since Chapter 4 Season 4 and it still hasn’t been removed, so it might be a permanent feature.
How to Farm Gold in Society Medallion Vaults
This season, players can get into vaults if they take down a Society Medallion boss. Once they’re defeated, they’ll drop a medallion, which can be used to open the vault’s door. Inside they will find a mod bench, containers with rare loot, and tons of gold.
There are multiple stacks of gold inside these vaults, and if players hit them with their harvesting tool, they will drop gold bars that they can then collect and increase their seasonal gold count. This method isn’t as effective as the Shield Breaker EMP, but gamers shouldn’t pass it up if they have the opportunity to visit a vault in Fortnite.
