Combat slide in Starfield is definitely not as cool as sliding and slide-canceling is in Call of Duty, but it is close enough. Mastering the art of combat sliding can give you a tactical edge, allowing you to dodge incoming attacks while maintaining momentum. We’re going to show you how to unlock and use the Combat Slide below.

Starfield – How to Combat Slide

To use Combat Slide in Starfield, you need to press crouch while sprinting. This is done differently depending on whether you are on. Here are the two ways:

  • Xbox: Left Analogue stick in (LS) to start sprinting and then crouch (B)
  • PC: Left Shift key to sprint and then crouch (Left CTRL)

Keep in mind that this burns oxygen during the sprint, so be careful when using it. Also, you have to have this ability unlocked by putting points into the Gymnastics Skill. Without the skill unlocked, you’ll just start sneaking around after sprinting.

How to unlock Combat Slide in Starfield

To unlock Combat Slide in Starfield, you have to put a single point into your Gymnastics skill. This will unlock the Combat slide and let you use it whenever.

Remember that Gymnastics is a Tier 2 (Advanced) skill. So you’ll need to put four points into the Physical skill tree before it will become available. Once it’s available, you can put the point into it. So technically, you need five points before you can get Combat Slide.

Can other skills enhance Combat Slide?

Other skills won’t make your Combat Slide any better in Starfield, but they can help it in other ways. For example, investing in fitness will reduce your oxygen consumption, allowing you to sprint longer before sliding. So if you’re looking for a way to slide longer or faster, you’re out of luck.

Is combat sliding in Starfield the same as in Call of Duty?

Combat sliding in Starfield is slower and cannot be canceled, while combat sliding in Call of Duty is faster and can be canceled. Combat sliding in Starfield does not consume oxygen, while combat sliding in Call of Duty does consume oxygen. Finally, Combat sliding in Starfield is more useful for evading enemy fire, while combat sliding in Call of Duty is more useful for closing the distance on an enemy quickly while firing at them.

There are many differences and it does feel a lot slower and less action-packed in Starfield. To be fair, this is an RPG, not a first-person shooter, so Bethesda played to the demographic that normally is not used to fast sliding.
