Highlights

  • Players in Palworld are eager for the ability to move items without having to deconstruct them first, as it can be inconvenient to rebuild items in a new location.
  • Terraforming is currently not possible in Palworld, which limits players’ ability to build on uneven terrain. Introducing this feature would offer more flexibility in base construction.
  • The addition of a blueprint system would allow players to save and reuse their custom building designs when relocating their base, similar to features in other games like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Collecting Pals in Pocketpair’s Palworld has been widely deemed the game’s most appealing feature, as it is of almost any creature-collecting game. Even so, Palworld is about much more than creature-collecting, as it places a significant emphasis on base building, per its classification as a survival game. In fact, one of the main motivations behind capturing Pals is to have a wide variety of helpful workers to assist in daily operations at the player’s base.

As base building plays such a huge role in Palworld‘s gameplay loop, it needs to be top-notch. However, being that Palworld is currently only in early access, it still has a long road ahead of it in terms of its development, and that includes the game’s base-building mechanics and features. In light of that, there are several key features and updates that Pocketpair should consider implementing into Palworld‘s base building to bring it up to par with the survival genre’s modern standards.

Palworld’s Base Building Still Needs Several Key Features

Players Should Be Allowed to Move Items Without Deconstructing Them

Perhaps one of the most requested features that fans hope to see added to Palworld‘s base building at some point is the ability to move items once they are constructed. Currently, players can only “move” items in Palworld by first destroying them and then rebuilding them in the desired location. While this isn’t overwhelmingly inconvenient, it is inconvenient nonetheless. Many survival/crafting games give players the ability to move constructed items, even if it has its limits, so it would certainly be welcomed in Palworld.

Terraforming Would Allow Players to Avoid Terrain Limitations

As of now, there is no way for players to shape the terrain around their base, so it’s impossible to lay foundations on uneven land without the ground clipping through the floor. Additionally, creating a base on land of varying heights is not ideal, as the mechanics for building stairs in Palworld are fairly complicated at the moment. However, a terraforming option would change that. Palworld‘s current competitor, Enshrouded, allows players to terraform the land around their base, so there is little reason Palworld shouldn’t also have it as a feature.

Blueprints Would Allow Players to Save Designs

Another highly requested feature is the ability to save blueprints for later use. For example, if a player constructs a unique building on their base but later decides to move their base to a new location, they could save a blueprint of the building in question and then automatically place it (given they have the required materials on hand) at their new base’s location. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has a similar feature called Autobuild, which allows players to save a created work as a blueprint and then automatically build it, so long as the materials required for it are in their inventory.

Better Task Assignment Would Help Players Run a More Well-Oiled Base

Most survival games require players to build their base on their own, but Palworld allows players to utilize their Pals in base building. Unfortunately, although Pals are very helpful when they do pitch in, manually assigning them to certain tasks can be a bit of a hassle. Currently, players can only manually assign a Pal to a task by picking them up and throwing them at it, so some form of manual task assignment system in the Palbox might help players run a more organized base.

Despite the features that it is lacking in early access, Palworld‘s base building has still proven to be a satisfying endeavor for many players. Fans are constantly sharing their Palworld base designs online for all the world to see, so it’s clearly a highlight of the game, even without some of the key features it could still benefit from. Still, the hope is that Pocketpair will remain committed to ensuring Palworld‘s base building is aligned with modern standards.
