Blackbird Interactive and Gearbox Publishing are building up the excitement for its upcoming story-driven sci-fi RTS game, Homeworld 3. Today, a new video premiered during the PC Gaming Show: Most Wanted 2023 broadcast, which offered a behind-the-scenes look and insights from the developers of this newest entry in the GOTY-winning real-time strategy series.
However, excitement is accompanied by a bit of disappointment, as the release of Homeworld 3 has once again faced a delay. The recently disclosed release date is now scheduled for March 8, 2024, on both Steam and the Epic Games Store, with pre-orders becoming available today. Earlier this year, Gearbox had previously pushed back the release to February 2024.
Homeworld 3 promises to deliver an entirely new narrative within the expansive Homeworld universe. In this latest installment, players will follow the journey of Imogen S’Jet, a scientist and successor to Karan S’Jet, who must assume the role of Fleet Command to unravel the mysteries behind The Anomaly—a looming threat that endangers the future of the galaxy.
In comparison with its predecessors, Homeworld 3 offers an immersive cinematic experience, elevating the iconic 3D RTS gameplay of the series with remarkably innovative features such as cover-based tactics and physics-based ballistics simulation. These elements allow for a more dynamic space combat experience.
Homeworld 3 also introduces exciting and competitive multiplayer options, including the Skirmish mode and a new cooperative mode called War Games. The latter combines Homeworld‘s strategic gameplay with roguelike challenges and progression, allowing players to team up with friends to face the unknown together.
Yesterday, Gearbox revealed the System Requirements for Homeworld 3, showcasing its adaptability to a wide range of system configurations. Notably, the game supports Ray Tracing for soft shadows with contact hardening, as well as HDR for unlocking even higher fidelity. DLSS3 and Frame Generation are also featured for compatible NVIDIA graphics cards, and the game officially supports the Intel ARC series of graphics cards. With these technological advancements, Homeworld 3 is expected to offer a visually stunning and immersive gaming experience.
