During The Game Awards 2023, Hideo Kojima himself announced Kojima Productions’ next game, titled “OD.”
OD is a horror game that intends to explore “the concept of testing your fear threshold.” Kojima-san defined it on stage as “a game, but at the same time a movie, and a new form of media.”
It will be created in partnership with Academy Award-winning director Jordan Peele of “Get Out,” “Us,” and “Nope” fame. Interestingly, Kojima-san also revealed that there are more storytellers involved as creative, albeit he is not ready to reveal their identities.
Peele himself defined Kojima-san’s work as an inspiration and mentioned on stage that OD is “completely immersive and utterly terrifying.”
Of course, it wouldn’t be a Kojima Productions game without a star-studded cast, including Sophia Lillis (Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves), Hunter Schaffer (Euphoria) and Udo Kier (Flesh for Frankenstein) playing the lead roles.
Kojima-san himself will be responsible, as usual for his games, for the overall planning, the script, and the game design.
Interestingly, the platforms have not been announced, but considering that this is the teased game done in partnership with Xbox Game Studios, Xbox Series X|S and PC are probable. No release window or even a year have been mentioned besides the usual “coming soon.”

Accompanying the trailer is a press release reporting a statement by Kojima-san himself.
We are working with Xbox Game Studios and their cloud gaming technology to take on the challenge of creating a very unique, immersive, and totally new style of game – or rather, a new form of media.
Not only does the game make use of Microsoft’s cloud as we already knew, but it’s built on Unreal Engine 5 as opposed to Death Stranding‘s Decima Engine (which makes sense since Decima is owned by Sony). It’ll also use Epic Games’ MetaHuman technology.
Incidentally, Kojima-san mentioned on X (formerly Twitter) that OD stands neither for “Oxygen Destroyer” nor “Open the Door.”
In more Kojima-related news, a documentary on his work titled Hideo Kojima: Connecting Worlds will debut on Disney+ in spring 2024, and you can watch a trailer below.
