Griefing in Helldivers 2 has become quite a problem among a small subset of players, with some opting to kick players from the mission seconds before extraction so they don’t receive any rewards. This has become so much of an issue that the upcoming Escalation of Freedom update will add a quality-of-life change to still grant griefed players the rewards they would have missed out on. However, griefers receive no punishment and reports typically go unnoticed, but one Helldivers 2 player has an idea, send them to the gulag.

U/iWearMagicPants took to Reddit to suggest that players that grief others whether it is intentional team-killing or kicking before extraction be placed in their own lobbies filled with other griefers. This has been done in the past in games such as GTA Online, where cheaters and griefers would be placed in their own lobbies so everyone could just ruin each other’s experiences and leave the regular players to freely enjoy the game.

In the post, they suggested that players be put in “prison” saying “I think that having “prison lobbies” for griefers to serve time in so that they can only play with each other would be ideal. After so many infractions of the same nature or total infractions they go to “prison”. It’s not really rocket science to understand and I feel would be better than allowing griefers to grief and still get to keep their stuff isn’t fixing anything but causing new issues. Griefers could still grief each other and actual divers could spread managed democracy. Easy.”

U/_Captian__Awesome suggested that Arrowhead Game Studios should bring back the commendations system where players give a thumbs up to players that they enjoyed playing with. “A simple “thumbs up” at the end of a mission during the after-action report would be ideal. Everyone gives everyone thumbs up. Maybe even add a voted MVP option, so high-quality players match with high-quality players,” they said.

This would be a great idea to punish players and make their gameplay experience worse without banning them from playing. With the developers now adding changes to prevent griefing from happening, it is a good sign that they are aware of the issue and aren’t happy about the mechanics being abused.
