Helldivers 2 is one of the most popular games right now, with hundreds of thousands of concurrent Helldivers fighting across the galaxy to bring democracy to every enemy that stands in their way. Although Helldivers 2 is incredibly fun and it is easy to get lost in it for hours on end, it is important to not neglect real-world commitments and obligations, as one young player learned recently.
U/0x18 took to Reddit to recount a funny story of a young Helldiver being forced to hold off on bringing democracy to the galaxy to attend his sister’s soccer practice. While they were playing a team of higher level players, they were joined by a lower level who turned out to be a young child just beginning his journey as a Helldiver. During the game, “Private Newbies mother entered the room and yells “DEVIN! I told you to get ready for your sisters soccer practice!” … followed by the (I’m guessing) eight year old Devin screaming back that he only needs five more minutes.”
Understanding the importance of family events and schedules, “our host decided to pause for a moment and asked the other two of us to hold our position. Raising his voice he yelled “HEY! Devin’s mom! Can you hear us Mom?”” The host then positioned the young player and then did a friendly fire kill on the player before booting him from the game, saying “Devin, your democracy officer has demanded you return to your ship! There you go Mom! He’s out of the game now! Devin: go get ready for your sister’s practice!” The player’s mother found the whole event amusing, concluding the story saying “A moment later, while Devin’s Mom laughed her ass off in the background, the host then kicked Devin from the game, and we continued the mission.”
Bringing democracy to the galaxy is important, but touching grass is equally as important so all players, especially young ones, need to make sure they don’t neglect aspects of their lives and commitments to fight the Automatons, Terminids, or any other threat to the galaxy.
