Arrowhead Game Studios released the latest Helldivers 2 Premium Warbond earlier this month titled Polar Patriots. Based on the name alone, it would be fair to assume it is based on ice, cold, and winter, and the promotional material confirms this too. Unfortunately, very little about it is based on this theme, which has led many players to be disappointed with it.
In a post on Reddit, u/nacostaart was left confused as to how a winter-themed Warbond doesn’t have a white cape, calling it “one of the biggest disappointments.” This has been a common criticism with the Polar Patriots Warbond, being that it was themed around ice and cold,
This has been a point of contention among the community for the past few weeks, with many players agreeing. U/WestKenshiTradingCo responded by saying “I’m still confused on why the only white armor is more like sun baked plastic colored than actually snow white,” with u/Riker1701NCC saying that it “looks like someone left it in the sun and dunked it in coffee.”
Instead of having a focus on white, for some reason orange is a prominent color in this Warbond, which would have seemed more at home with the Democratic Detonation Warbond. U/TrumpersAreTraitors feels that this color scheme clashes with a lot of currently available options saying “We have no other white and orange gear that I am aware of so I can’t even wear my cool Hoth snow trooper helmet with it because the red visor and orange traffic cone highlights totally clash.”
The Polar Patriots Warbond does feel like a missed opportunity in many regards. If Arrowhead Game Studios are going to release themed Warbonds in the future, the developers need to emphasize the theme in the items on offer. Other titles such as Fortnite have utilized themes in the past for their Battle Passes, such as the current Myths and Mortals Battle Pass for Chapter 5 Season 2 with the cosmetics revolving around Gods, whether it is skins or extra items such as musical instruments.
Although the Polar Patriots Warbond has been disappointing, it does have some good weapons such as the SMG-72 Pummeler.
