The Terminid Control System Major Orders community event is currently taking place in Helldivers 2 until March 19 and started following the 1.000.102 update. The event has players tasked with activating Terminid Control Systems across four planets to eradicate the Terminid. However, players aren’t expecting things to go as smoothly as planned and suspect that Arrowhead Game Studios has a few tricks up it’s sleeve for when the event ends.
We have already seen some evidence of this with the new Shriekers flying enemies appearing in the game following the nerf of the Chargers with the latest update. This has added a surprising new twist to the gameplay and now players have to watch the sky as well as the ground for hostile creatures.
But, this isn’t the only twist that some players are expecting to come with this event, as some believe the largest changes will come after the event next week. In a Reddit post titled “What sort of fresh hell do you think awaits us when this order is completed?”, u/GetThisManSomeMilk shared a theory about what could be next in Helldivers 2 saying “I’m thinking we will be introduced to hive lords, or that the bots and bugs will start working together.”
Other users shared this curiosity too, whilst u/esquegee noted that “this is a dope way to test new mission types. I love the way they make the requisition of new modes and stratagems fit the story’s narrative.” I do agree with Esquegee in that this is an interesting way to potentially test new mission types while also being able to drive the story of the game. With the recent addition of the Shriekers, which seemingly came out of nowhere without any warning or mention in the patch notes, it does appear that Arrowhead Game Studios are looking at doing an interesting spin on live service gaming and focusing on making the Helldivers 2 universe an ever-evolving entity that doesn’t just wait for major updates to add new content to go live. Instead, it can show up at any time. It will be very exciting to see where the game is headed in the coming weeks.
