A rumored Helldivers 2 leak has given players yet another glimpse of an enemy from the Illuminate faction in the game’s files. Since the release of Helldivers 2, data miners have continued to scour its files for upcoming content, and while not everything makes it into the game, it’s generally a good indication of what’s coming soon.
Arrowhead Game Studios is yet to confirm the official existence of the Illuminate faction in Helldivers 2. However, along with the Terminids and Automatons, the Illuminate did exist back in the original Helldivers, so it would make sense that the third faction would finally make a return. After all, many gamers have only played the sequel, so if Helldivers 2 wants to expand its lore, bringing back the Illuminate would be the perfect way to do so in a way that would keep the gameplay loop fresh with the faction’s blend of melee and ranged combat seen in the previous game.

According to trustworthy leaker IronS1ghts on Reddit, another model from the rumored upcoming Illuminate faction has now leaked via the game’s files. Another previous Helldivers 2 leak gave players their first look at an Illuminate enemy, although this appears to be a new model entirely. This leak shows the enemy holding a “LightSpear” staff, which according to IronS1ghts, can be used in both melee and ranged combat, “firing a beam of light if needed.” Considering the Automatons are more ranged-based and Terminids are more melee-focused, this combination of the two for the Illuminate makes a ton of sense.
Another Helldivers 2 Illuminate Model Leaks
Interestingly, this time around, the model appears a lot more detailed than the previous set of Illuminate leaks. This could mean that the Illuminate faction is now a lot closer to release than it was previously, which would represent an exciting shake-up to the Helldivers 2 gameplay formula. The Automatons and Terminids of Helldivers 2 are still lots of fun to fight, but change is definitely welcome in this regard. As with any Helldivers 2 leak, it should be noted that the Illuminate’s existence is yet to be officially confirmed, so the plans that appear to be in the works could still change in the future.
With Helldivers 2 now seemingly emerging from the recent PSN controversy, Arrowhead Game Studios can get back to doing what it does best – creating awesome new content for gamers to play. Recent Helldivers 2 updates have focused on fixing crashes and bugs as well as balance updates, so hopefully there will be a huge slate of content to come in the near future.
