It’s been reported that the recently released Helldivers 2 is having some issues with AMD Radeon RX 7000 graphics cards, and now the development team has been made aware.
In an official post on the Arrowhead website, Sagar Beroshi, Deputy Game Director on Helldivers 2 explained that there are “critical problems for players” using “AMD Radeon 7000 series of GPUs”. While nothing specific has been flagged as the cause, he states that: “There are all sorts of significant problems players with these GPUs are experiencing, in total making the game nearly unplayable”.
It’s been flagged as a “constant issue” for these users” and is something that is under investigation in collaboration with AMD, however, no solution has been proposed by the development team at this time. Gamers using AMD hardware have been advised to send in details of their specs when experiencing issues so that things can be ironed out.
Interestingly, Beroshi states that: “AMD-using players have conveyed that they can play the game on the lowest performance settings” but any attempt to dial things up causes issues. We recommend doublechecking the Helldivers 2 system requirements before investing in the game. A post on the official r/helldivers subreddit goes into more detail: that Helldivers 2 is crashing on the Radeon 7000 series.
One user writes that: “the game crashes on AMD GPUs and kills the drivers or straight up resets the computer” which is happening on versions 23.12.1 and 24.1.1 of the game. Another user writes how they “can’t get past the tutorial” and how the game “crashes when the cutscene is about to end when leaving the ship” with six attempts to surpass this point.
It appears as though the majority of users in the thread are using the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX with several Redditors reporting driver timeouts and instant crashes when playing through Helldivers 2. This has also been reported with the RX 7800 XT. A separate thread on the r/helldivers subreddit has been launched to fix Helldivers 2 crashing on launch, but it appears to have mixed results.
It’s far from ideal when a popular online shooter drops and suffers from some serious performance issues. We’ll be keeping you updated for when these issues are resolved. Until then, we recommend checking out the best GPU for Helldivers 2 in case a replacement may be in order.
