Harry and Meghan live together in the United States. After saying goodbye to their duties as working members of the royal family, they lived a financially independent life here. For example, the pair struck a huge deal with Netflix. Harry published his memoir, Backup, in early 2023, in which he revealed the shocking experiences of life behind palace walls.

He also revealed that he had used drugs such as cocaine and marijuana in the past. With this in mind, the question arises as to whether he should have been granted a U.S. visa because he lied on his visa application. Donald Trump has told U.S. Express that he will not protect Harry.

Trump also pointed out that he has repeatedly criticized the royal family publicly. He's also “not a fan of Meghan.” Following his election win, reports are now emerging about what Harry and Meghan's future holds in the United States.

US secretary of state could lead the way for Harry's future

According to the Daily Mail, future foreign ministers could decide Prince Harry's future in the United States. It's unclear who that person is. Crucially what type of visa the Duke of Sussex holds. One of the most promising candidates for the political post is Ric Grenell, the former U.S. ambassador to Germany.

In 2021, following Harry and Meghan's scandalous interview with Oprah Winfrey, he tweeted something about the former actress:

“She didn't want to do the work but was angry that she wasn't getting a free gift.”

Marco Rubio could also be considered for secretary of state. It's worth noting that it's unclear exactly how he feels about Harry.

Harry's visa status is unclear; a judge ruled in September that relevant U.S. government documents would not be released. But experts told the newspaper the 40-year-old may have a rare diplomatic visa. Therefore, members of the ruling royal family will be entitled to it.

Prince Harry and his visa issues

But since Harry is no longer a senior royal, it remains questionable whether he will actually receive it. Donald Trump had already stressed in an interview with British News in March that he could expel the duke. The newspaper said that if Harry had been on an A-1 visa, or a diplomatic visa, his admission of drug use would not have been an issue because people would not be screened for previous drug use or drug-related crimes.

Harry's later admission that he had taken drugs at work would not have affected such a visa. However, the Daily Mail explains that if the diplomatic visa is revoked, the prince could still obtain a green card or other visa through his marriage to an American.

However, experts pointed out that “the royal family may have to pass private information to the US government.” This is exactly where it can become a problem. Regarding the royal visa, it was said: “Its purpose is to protect matters that should be kept secret and relate to others such as the King of the United Kingdom, matters that the British have an interest in keeping secret.” It is now possible to check Harry's status.
