For a certain generation of gamers, Halo was their introduction to modern shooters. Bungie’s space opera is set in a world packed with action, war, and big-idea stories. It is a world that 343 Industries and Mantic Games want to bring to miniatures with an official Halo miniatures game.
The Halo miniatures game announcement
According to a post on Mantic Games’ website, the UK-based tabletop developer has announced a partnership with 343 Industries to launch a brand new Halo miniatures game.
As the post’s minimalist press image illustrates, this new miniatures game will be coming to retail in September 2024. Halo fans can expect to see Spartan miniatures that bring multiplayer battles to life in a game experience aimed at both tabletop newcomers and veterans alike.
“We’re extremely excited to be partnering with 343 Industries on bringing Halo to tabletops everywhere”, said Ronnie Renton, CEO and founder of Mantic Games. “Having a firefight play out on the table while moving Spartans in and out of cover connects players to the action in a new and special way. We have a thrilling and competitive game, from a passionate team of talented sculptors, artists, and designers who have been building an incredible Halo experience.”
Mantic Games is no stranger to making fast-paced competitive board game experiences. Their work includes Dreadball, which our review of its Second Edition Core Set praises for its flexibility and variety in team selection, and the robotic sports arena game OverDrive.
Aside from the announcement, not much else was revealed about the Halo miniatures game. The post does confirm that Mantic and 343 Industries will have more to show about the game soon, including a preview coming in March.
All in all, the idea of a Halo miniatures game does spark the imagination. Recreating certain maps like Blood Gulch comes to mind, but there is also the chance to play as different factions like The Covenant, The Banished, The Flood, or The Sentinels.
Either way, we will learn more in about two months.
