The team behind the H2M Mod project has announced the end of all operations after receiving a cease and desist order from publisher and IP holder Activision.
H2M Mod, a project that gained considerable popularity within the PC gaming community for its modifications and enhancements to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, has been forced to cease all activities to avoid a possible infringement of the company’s intellectual property rights.
According to a statement released by the developers, the decision to suspend the project was made in strict compliance with the legal order received. The cease & desist was received one day before the highly-anticipated mod was set to release.
With the new statement the team has emphasized that the cessation of operations is immediate and permanent.
“We are complying with this order and stopping all operations immediately,” the H2M Mod team said in a statement on X. Despite the impact this may have on the community, they have made it clear that their priority is to respect current legal regulations.
No further legal action has been announced at this time, but the H2M Mod team has made it clear that they have no intention of continuing with the project or contesting the court order.
This closure serves as a reminder of the strict oversight that major gaming companies maintain over independent projects involving their products, highlighting the legal complexities that mod developers face today.
