The longtime actor for Goku, Sean Schemmel, reveals that he did over 60 hours of voice acting work for Bandai Namco and Spike Chunsoft’s upcoming release of Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero. While Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero contains a number of fan favorite and obscure picks in its roster, it wouldn’t be a Dragon Ball game if it didn’t feature the face of its franchise, Son Goku. The hero of the long-running franchise was one of the first characters confirmed for Sparking Zero, and several of his forms will be represented in the game, separated by sagas. For example, Goku from DBZ‘s Saiyan Saga is known as Goku (Z – Early), while the Goku with access to the Super Saiyan God and Super Saiyan Blue transformations are represented as Goku (Super).
Sean Schemmel will be reprising his role as Goku in Sparking Zero. Sean Schemmel has played adult Goku in Dragon Ball‘s English dub for over 25 years, after Funimation switched over to Texas-based cast since 1999. Schemmel has been one of the most consistent English dub voices for Son Goku, and he continues to play him to this day, so it’s likely no surprise fans are hearing him in Sparking Zero. Schemmel has recently revealed how much work he has done for the upcoming video game, which has gotten fans very excited.

Rumor: Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero Release Date Has Leaked
A notable insider leaks a probable release date for Bandai Namco and Spike Chunsoft’s upcoming Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero.
In a recent Q&A livestream from Sean Schemmel’s Twitch channel, one of the questions he was asked was how much he could say about Sparking Zero. According to Schemmel, he put in around 60–80 hours of voice acting into it, maybe even longer, saying fans are “going to love it.” He notes that while he is under NDA and can’t share too much, he feels fans are really going to enjoy it, and that he would be streaming the game when Sparking Zero is released.
Goku Actor Did “60-80 Hours” of Voice Work For Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero
Fans are speculating about the correlation between Schemmel’s estimate of voice acting and the game’s content. Schemmel isn’t just voicing Sparking Zero‘s multiple variants of Goku, but also other characters in Dragon Ball, including the fusion forms of Goku and Vegeta, Gogeta and Vegito, supporting characters like King Kai and Nail, and the villainous Goku Black from Dragon Ball Super. While these characters haven’t been confirmed yet, their popularity makes it likely for them to show up.
Based on Schemmel’s estimate, along with the multiple roles he likely will play in the game, fans theorize that either Sparking Zero‘s single player campaign will be extensive, or that Schemmel has recorded several different pre-fight dialogue interactions between Goku and other members of the roster. Regardless, both the fans and the voice of Son Goku are very excited about Sparking Zero.
