Rumors surrounding a Gears of War Marcus Fenix Collection continue to persist, following its mention on a prevalent Xbox-themed podcast. Fans of the franchise have long hoped for a Gears of War collection, similar to Halo‘s The Master Chief Collection, and it looks like it may be in the works after all.
A Gears of War Marcus Fenix Collection would presumably include upgraded versions of the original three games, in which Marcus Fenix is the primary protagonist. It’s not known whether these would be complete remasters, or slight visual upgrades with increased frames per second. Rumors of a Gears of War collection first surfaced all the way back in 2015, but these hopes were shot down before the year ended. Since then, rumors have repeatedly resurfaced, but have never formed into anything concrete. However, if this podcast host is to be believed, it’s very much in the works.
Former Gears of War Dev Joins God of War Studio
A former Gears of War and Warhammer director, writer, and game designer is joining Santa Monica Studio as a Narrative Director.
The host of the Double Barrel Gaming Podcast, known as MrBoomStickXL, claimed that the Marcus Fenix Collection “1000% exists” and is in development. While many Gears of War fans are probably hesitant to get their hopes up over such a possibility, it seems that such a collection may be coming sooner rather than later. Of course, it’s still hearsay at this point, so if the project is in fact real, fans will likely be hoping for additional leaks to come out over the next couple of months.
This lines up with a leak from earlier this year, when an insider claimed that Gears of War remasters were in the works. Since then, the rumor mill has remained largely quiet until now, so fans are probably excited to know that insiders are still claiming that it’s happening.
The first Gears of War game is now over 17 years old, so it would make sense for The Coalition, or another studio, to revamp the classic game and its two sequels for modern hardware. It’s been confirmed that a Gears of War movie is in the works at Netflix, and will likely be based around Marcus Fenix. So, it’s possible that this rumored Marcus Fenix Collection may be released in tandem with Netflix’s live-action retelling of the Gears of War story.
Following the success of Halo‘s The Master Chief Collection, Gears of War fans have thought it would be a logical step for their favorite games to get the same treatment. However, The Master Chief Collection had an extremely rough launch, so this alleged Marcus Fenix Collection might end up outshining Xbox’s flagship character.

Xbox Game Studios’ Gears of War franchise began on the Xbox 360 and instantly became a flagship franchise for the green brand. The original Gears of War trilogy is considered one of the finest in the history of the third-person shooter genre, with the trilogy’s intense action and surprisingly touching story moments creating memorable experiences.
The series has had another two solid main series entries since and even a turn-based tactics game.
