Game Of Thrones: Most Evil Characters

Highlights

  • Walder Frey played a crucial role in the shocking Red Wedding, displaying a lack of care for his actions and enjoyment of bloodshed.
  • Tywin Lannister is a cold, calculating, and complex character who displays great malice and never feels guilt or doubt about his actions.
  • Ramsay Bolton is the most sadistic character, finding pleasure in inflicting pain on others, especially through his systematic torture of Theon Greyjoy.

With a show as dark as Game of Thrones, there is no shortage of characters capable of doing dastardly deeds without losing any sleep over their actions, as the game does require some cunning and ruthlessness if the players are to survive. Fans will remember those episodes, where blood and villainy both flowed freely.

Not all of them are quite as memorable as Robotnik, Bowser, and Ganon, but, collectively, the bad guys in these iconic franchises are not too far off.

Characters such as Roose Bolton and Tywin Lannister likely come to mind when people try to remember who was the evilest among the best Game of Thrones characters, but there are plenty more characters that deserve recognition for the wrong they did throughout the show.

7 Walder Frey

Played A Crucial Hand In The Red Wedding

Game of Thrones Frey daughter

By far, the Red Wedding is still the most shocking and memorable episode in the entire show and has gone down in television history for its notoriety. Walder Frey betrays Robb and his men, trapping them in a death trap within the walls of his keep on the day of his Uncle’s wedding to one of his daughters. Though Roose Bolton shares a lot of the blame, his plan could not have worked without Walder’s assistance.

His lack of care for his actions, and indeed even seeming to enjoy the brutal displays of bloodshed mark him as one of the most evil characters. Not only that, he displays wickedness throughout the show in the treatment of any child unfortunate enough to be born into his family.

6 Tywin Lannister

Cold, Calculating, Complex

Tywin Lannister on the Iron Throne in Game of Thrones.

Tywin is one of the most enjoyable characters to watch on screen, thanks to his intelligent and cunning ways, and one of the few characters that can stand up to the boy-king Joffrey while keeping his head on his shoulders. He is ruthless, cold, and calculating, all the makings of an evil character fans can’t help but love.

Though his reign of villainy is met with an undignified end at the hands of his own son Tyrion, while he was on the show he displayed great malice by allowing his men to round up and torture people who might have useful information. He deems such extreme measures as necessary, and certainly would never feel an iota of guilt or doubt about his actions.

5 Roose Bolton

Betrays Others for His Own Benefit

Game of Thrones Roose Bolton

One of the other guilty parties responsible for the Red Wedding events, Roose Bolton is about as cold and opportunistic as they come. Though he was one of the houses that swore allegiance to House Stark, he saw more opportunities to benefit his own house with the defeat of the Stark and was more than happy to see them all dead, even Robb’s unborn child.

His calm demeanor makes him a more complex and cold villain, which can make him appear congenial to others, allowing him to easily betray more people. And as he already demonstrated, he would betray anyone if he thought it would serve his own goals.

4 Cersei Lannister

The Author Of Numerous Atrocities

Cersei and Eddard Stark in Game of Thrones.

It would seem ruthlessness and the capacity for evil runs in the Lannisters, as Cersei stands out as one of the most nefarious characters in the show. Though she does display moments of humanity such as her love for her children, she still has her hands on many nefarious plots.

She mistreated Sansa, forced a mother to watch her child die of poisoning, and lied about her intention to help during the fight against the White Walkers. Everything she did in the show was self-serving, and hardly ever lifted a finger to benefit another. This marks her as a selfish, evil, and even dangerous individual that people should think twice about crossing.

3 Joffrey Baratheon

One of the Most Twisted & Cruel Individuals With Too Much Power

Game of Thrones Joffrey

By far the most hated character in the show, Joffrey was certainly deserving of all of the hatred thanks to the evil atrocities he committed in the show. His crowning as king only served to make him more evil, as he now had the power to do as he wished without fear of repercussions.

By far, some of his most evil acts were abusing the courtesans Tyrion sent him, his mistreatment of Sansa, threatening to kill the butcher boy, and ordering the beheading of Ned Stark, an action that would shape the future of Westeros, and sparking a war. Though Joffrey eventually got his comeuppance, his tenure on the show involved some of the most evil and earth-shaking actions.

2 Ramsay Bolton

Found Pleasure When Inflicting Pain On Others

Game of Thrones, Ramsay Bolton

The most sadistic individual on the show has to be Ramsay Bolton, the twisted and deranged son of Roose. At first, he disguises himself as someone who will help Theon escape his capture, only for it to be a cruel ploy, and that Ramsay himself is his jailor and torturer.

1 The Night King

Master Of The White Walkers

Game of Thrones White King

Whether it is possible to ascribe morals to the army of undead is tough to say, but what is undeniable is that the White Walkers pose a threat to all of mankind, and care little for the wars ravaging their lands. The Wall and those that defend it were created to try and stop the Walkers from spilling over to their lands and slaughtering all in their path, incapable or simply not caring to differentiate the deserving from the innocent.

As the first Walker and their leader, he bears the brunt of the blame for their actions, as scenes in the show display his power and authority over the other walkers, and there is no doubt he would command his army to raze every village to the ground and spill the blood of every last man, woman, and child.
