France’s Autorité De La Concurrence has raided the offices a graphics card firm, with reports suggesting Nvidia was the target.
In a statement published on Wednesday, the country’s competition authority announced it had, with the approval of a judge, “carried out a dawn raid at the premises of a company suspected of having implemented anticompetitive practices in the graphics cards sector.”
While the regulator did not name the company, sources told The Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg that it was Nvidia.
The regulator also emphasised that raids “do not pre-suppose the existence of a breach of the law,” as this can only be established after a full investigation.
According to Autorité De La Concurrence’s statement, the raid is part of an investigation into competition in the cloud gaming space, with graphics cards increasingly used to handle computing power, especially for the rise of generative AI.
In a report published in June, the French authority cited concerns that leading companies in this space could use the computational power they can access to exclude smaller companies and hinder innovation, according to the WSJ.
Both Nvidia and Autorité De La Concurrence have declined to comment to various publications.
