The Mets didn't have much success early on. They loaded the bases in the first and second innings but scored no runs. In the fifth race they left the first two runners behind, but Jeff Hoffman saved the day by retiring the inherited runners.

Edwin Diaz came on to end the ninth and struck out the first two batters. But after beating Cody Clemens, Brandon Marsh was fired.
This brings up Kyle Schwarber, whose October resume speaks for itself. He went 0-for-9 at bat with seven strikeouts against the closer, and Schwarber swung and missed on an outside slider to give the Mets a 4-1 win.
The Mets' first trip to the NLCS since 2015, when they won the pennant.

The Mets are starting to feel like a team with destiny. New York had a chance to be eliminated from postseason contention on the final day of the season, but the Mets pulled off a crazy double-header. Then, in the wild card series, they had two outs and went home.

This is another tough game for the Phillies, who are literally out of the league. They lost the World Series in 2022 and lost in the NLCS last year. Now this is an early departure from the Division Series. They did the same from 2008 to 2011 and experienced an 11-year drought.

The Mets had a crazy schedule: At one point, they played six games in five days, three of which were postseason contests. Now they can rest until Sunday and wait for the winner of the Padres-Dodgers series. San Diego leads the series 2-1 after Game 4 in San Diego on Wednesday.
