Epic Games just released another Fortnite update on Tuesday, January 16. Once again, this is a content update, meaning that you don’t need to update your client. This is the third content update in Chapter 5 – Season 1, and the first major update of the season will likely arrive soon.

Today’s Fortnite update brought another item unvaulting, as well as new challenges. Once you complete these challenges, you will be able to level up your Battle Pass at least once. If you’d like to know everything that came with the latest update, our Fortnite patch notes are below.

Today’s Fortnite update unvaulted another item

The highlight of today’s Fortnite update is the unvaulting of Crash Pad Jr.. This item was first released in Chapter 4 Season 4, but it only stayed in the game for one season. It’s a utility item that negates fall damage and can also be used to move quickly around the map. In the current season, Crash Pad Jr. has a drop rate of approximately 60%. It can be found in chests and on the floor.

Interestingly, the latest update also brought a small change to Fortnite’s Item Shop. Epic Games removed the reset countdown from it and added a note stating the the shop usually resets at midnight GMT.

Our patch notes also show the latest weekly challenges that came with the Fortnite update. These challenges are now available in the game, and here is a list of them:

  • Land at Fencing Fields and Reckless Railways
  • Hit headshots on enemy players with scoped weapons in different matches
  • Search containers
  • Travel distance while sliding on snow
  • Score 150,000 trick points on a Dirt Bike in a single trick
  • Land hits on enemy players using the Grapple Blade

This is the third content update in a row, and we expect a major Fortnite update to arrive next Tuesday. The current season will likely have three major updates, with two of them coming in February. The release date of Chapter 5 Season 2 is scheduled for early March, and the last update in February may also bring files regarding a possible live event.
