Today, former Gears of War franchise narrative director Bonnie Jean Mah has announced that she has joined God of War developer Sony Santa Monica.

According to the announcement made on X (formerly Twitter) she’ll work in the role of Narrative Director at her new workplace as well.

Mah spent the longest part of her career in the gaming industry at Gears of War developer The Coalition, starting in 2012 when it still was called Black Tusk Studios as narrativedesigner on an unannounced game and then moving to work as franchise narrative manager on the Gears of War IP in 2014.

During her work at The Coalition, she covered multiple narrative-focused roles becoming franchise narrative lead in 2019 and then franchise narrative director in 2020, contributing to shipping, among others, Gears 5 and Gears Tactics.

She also had two stints at Relic Entertainment, where she worked as writer and narrative designer on Warhammer 40k: Space Marine, and narrative lead and lead writer on Age of Empires IV

Her most recent job was at the Tencent-owned studio TiMi Montréal, where she worked for nearly two years as narrative director since January 2022 on a multiplatform AAA open-world RPG within a new IP, which has not been announced yet.

Assuming that she may work on the God of War franchise, not many developers get to apply their talent to the stories of two major franchises with the same acronym and two words of the title out of three in common.

Sony’s Santa Monica Studio has recently delivered the critically acclaimed God of War Ragnarok and is rumored to be working on another game within the series, albeit nothing official has been announced for the moment. The latest game of the franchise has sold through 11 million copies as of January 2023.

If you did not play the game yet, you can grab a copy for PS5 or PS4 on Amazon and get ready for what might come next.
