We are set to have another incredible year of video game releases. The first quarter of the year is already stacked with heavy hitters, and there are also events for gamers to anticipate. While Xbox has confirmed their upcoming Developer Direct, reports suggest that the first PS4, PS5 Sony State of Play of 2024 is coming soon.
As mentioned, the Xbox Developer Direct January 2024 date is confirmed. Even if you’re a PlayStation loyalist it will definitely be worth checking into. Not only because of rumors suggesting a major Xbox exclusive is coming to PS5 in early 2024 but because it will provide our first gameplay look at the exciting Indiana Jones from Bethesda. It will also provide a look at Avowed from beloved Fallout New Vegas developer, Obsidian Entertainment, and Ninja Theory will give another look at Hellblade 2.
While the Xbox Developer Direct is very exciting thanks to official details, the good news for PlayStation loyalists is that Sony will reportedly follow in Microsoft’s footsteps with their State of Play of the year.
PS4, PS5 Sony State of Play 2024 is coming soon
Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb has said on the Giant Bombcast that Sony’s first State of Play 2024 showcase is coming in “the next few weeks”. A Nintendo Direct will also reportedly happen in February, but neither Sony nor Nintendo have officially confirmed anything as of January 10th.
We haven’t had a State of Play showcase featuring games for the PS4 and PS5 since September 14th, 2023. An event in February makes a lot of sense as the 2024 release schedule reveals there are some huge PS5 console exclusives on the way. The Final Fantasy VII Rebirth release date is set for the end of February, Helldivers 2 is set for February as well on PS5 and PC, and then there’s Rise of the Ronin for March.
But, before any of the above-listed games come out, don’t forget all the exciting third-party multi-platform games on the cusp of release. Suicide Squad Kill The Justice League can be played at the end of January if you opt for early access, meanwhile, Persona 3 is getting a Persona 5 facelift with the Persona 3 Reload remake. If you’re on Xbox, Persona 3 Reload will actually join Xbox Game Pass at no additional cost.
In other PlayStation news, time is quickly running out to win a new PS5 by just answering five questions. Sony themselves have also listed the ten games you should play on PS5 first.
