Finally, after nearly four years of waiting, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is on the cusp of coming out. We’ve been waiting for the second installment in the FF7 Remake trilogy since 2020, and we only have to wait one more week until we can step into the shoes of Cloud once again. To allow you to play as soon as possible, here is the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth preload date and massive download file size.
While the game doesn’t launch until next week, the review embargo date actually ends on February 22nd. This shows massive confidence from Square Enix. Many are already expecting the game to be an early game-of-the-year contender, and we’re very confident that it will meet expectations as well as hopefully exceed them in some capacity.
Remember that FF7 Rebirth is only the second installment in the remake trilogy. It has beautiful visuals combined with a very big open-world playground, and this results in a massive download size requiring two discs for physical copies. If you pre-order Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth digitally, the advantage is that you can preload the game ahead of its release date.
How to preload Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
The preload date for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is February 27th. In order to download the newest installment in the FF7 Remake trilogy ahead of its release date, you will need to pre-order any edition of the game from the PSN store.
Unfortunately, unlike part 1 of the remake that launched in 2020, FF7 Rebirth is not on PS4. It is a PS5 console exclusive at launch, but there’s the likelihood it will join PC post-PlayStation launch. The 2020 remake joined the Epic Games store in December 2021 before it landed on Steam in June 2022. Square Enix hasn’t said anything about a PC release for Rebirth, but we could possibly see something similar.
FF7 Rebirth download file size
The massive preload download file size for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is 145.250 GB. This comes courtesy of the reliable PlayStationSize on Twitter. It is also PlayStationSize who confirms that you will be able to preload FF7 from local midnight on February 27th.
If you cannot wait for the game to launch, you can download the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth demo right now. Square Enix has released a new update for this demo, and it is said to include content unique to the playable sample.
Even if you already know you’re going to buy the game and wish to go in completely blind, we can’t recommend the demo enough purely for the piano mini-game alone. The piano mini-game is highly addictive, and we could easily see ourselves spending more time bringing out our inner Beethoven than slashing enemies with Cloud’s mightily long sword.
In other PlayStation news, Sony will soon pull the curtain aside on the PS Plus March 2024 games. The release date for Sea of Thieves on PS5 has been confirmed, and the release date for Hi-Fi Rush on PS5 has been revealed, too.
