After weeks of mounting anticipation, Winter Crew, the up-and-coming Filipino indie studio, has announced the launch date for their Kickstarter campaign for their debut title, Fallen Tear: The Ascension. This game is a mesmerizing and vividly colorful adventure that seamlessly blends classic Metroidvania gameplay with JRPG elements.
Set against the backdrop of the enchanting world of Raoah, Fallen Tear: The Ascension invites players to step into the role of Hira, a mysterious young boy on a quest to uncover the truth of his forgotten past in a realm that has lost its former peace and stability. As players journey through this ever-shifting world, they’ll forge bonds with a diverse cast of characters, unlocking new skills and abilities essential for battle. The environments are dynamic, constantly evolving in response to the players’ choices—all brought to life through stunning hand-drawn animation.
Ambitious, original, and audacious—just the way we like it—Fallen Tear: The Ascension aims to refresh the Metroidvania formula with its captivating blend of mechanics. The game draws from iconic gaming milestones, featuring level design inspired by Elden Ring and an open-world style reminiscent of the stunning universe of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Additionally, the developers have infused the game with a strong JRPG component, drawing from classics like Suikoden and Valkyrie Profile.
Despite being Winter Crew’s debut in the gaming industry, the team has spared no effort in crafting a high-quality experience that aims to leave a lasting impact. The game’s vast scope includes 26 diverse biomes, over 150 enemies, 22 potential allies, and three distinct skill progression paths, alongside engaging minigames and thrilling monster hunts—all set within a sprawling open world. A further testament to its quality is the voice acting, with a cast of distinguished voice actors lending their talents to breathe life into each character and inhabitant of Raoah, underscoring the team’s substantial commitment to the project.
